ABSTRACT

This chapter includes speculation about the legacies the inclusion movement will leave. It includes guesses about legacies considered likely and unlikely to be left. The authors guess that the legacies lower in probability would be more beneficial to students with disabilities. Those legacies seeming higher in probability include a process of gradual change (creeping normality) that also threatens the future of special education. The future most effective for the education of students with disabilities includes maintenance of a full continuum of placements and better understanding of the complexity of teaching.
