ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a framework developed for assessing technology-infused project-based language learning (PBLL). Many technology-infused PBLL courses and units have been implemented in language classrooms. The assessment of knowledge learning and competence development in those courses, however, remains underdeveloped. Informed by gaps in the existing classroom research, this chapter proposes a technology-infused PBLL assessment framework for instructors and researchers. The framework includes three main subconstructs (project knowledge and skills, project capacities, and affective disposition towards PBLL), and discusses the importance of setting learning objectives for the assessment of each subconstruct. In alignment with learning objectives, the assessment model probes the extent to which learners’ knowledge and capacities have improved throughout the PBLL course/unit, and evaluates students’ final learning outcomes and perceptions. This framework provides much-needed guidelines for instructors and researchers in establishing clear objectives for learning and assessment and choosing the appropriate assessment instruments and tools for their PBLL courses or projects.
