ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the individual and systemic barriers of asexual college students rooted in the invisibility and erasure of asexuality within the collegiate context. Beginning with foundational information about asexuality as a sexual identity, the chapter outlines the lack of recognition and structural support mechanisms for asexual identified individuals. Qualitative data from asexual students further supports the discussion on the influence of language, physical spaces, social norms, denial epistemic agency, and erasure within asexual contexts. These contexts challenge readers to rethink how collegiate contexts perpetuate asexual oppression. The chapter concludes with recommendations for policy and practice including educational initiatives for student support and implications for improving collegiate contexts for asexual college students.
