ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides reflective space that allows not only inspiration and imagination to thrive and results in creative ways to improve English language education in the age of globalisation and neoliberalism. It explores the innovation in English language education in Vietnam, which is aimed at strengthening the country’s economic competitiveness. The book examines the professional learning experiences of EFL teachers in the context of changes in English education policy in Vietnam. It presents a qualitative study that was set to explore the implementation of English Medium Instruction in Vietnamese universities through lecturers’ perspectives. The book reports on issues related to the teaching and use of English as a lingua franca in Vietnam as perceived by university teachers, full-time students, working part-time students, and working graduates in two Vietnamese cities.
