ABSTRACT

This chapter includes a narrative on the operating model of a unique intercollegiate national institution, the MOFET Institute, which serves the teacher educators population’s professional development. The Institute, which continues to operate, was established in 1984 by the Ministry of Education’s Teacher Personnel Training Division as a body to initiate and provide frameworks and platforms suitable for professional development and its encouragement. The basic assumption of its operational model was that the community of professionals, dealing with learning and research for their professional development, would as such build and expand a body of professional knowledge. This unique institute led to great and profound changes in the teacher education system and profession by providing unique programs, activities and services to faculty members of all colleges of education in the country. Constantly tracking and identifying the professional needs of teacher educators allowed MOFET to provide a high-quality solution, enabling teacher educators to engage in building teacher education’s body of knowledge.
