ABSTRACT

The journey toward excellence and continuous improvement described in this chapter is based on a conceptual framework that is deeply rooted in theories of change and change management models. It is believed that building a collective capacity for excellence requires a system-wide adoption of innovation. In this chapter we argue that the success of the accreditation process was mainly due to the high level of involvement of faculty at every level and aspect of the journey. This chapter addresses how the College of Education leadership at the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in Oman was able to ignite the hearts and minds of faculty members and mobilize their collective capacity to create a positive force for change. The chapter also highlights the challenges faced by the college leadership and lessons learned from the accreditation process.
