ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book outlines key policy and provision in relation to early years physical development and Physical Education in Key Stage 1 of primary school in England, and identifies the shortcomings. It discusses key terms and concepts in relation to meeting the physical development needs of young children: physical literacy, fundamental movement skills and physical activity. The book describes the role of retained primitive reflexes in preventing some children from reaching their physical development potential and outlines an approach that can help these children to re-visit missed stages or spend more time practising a certain developmental movement. It explores the potential of outdoor play and the Forest School approach and identifies the benefits of the as an approach in the early years as well as in primary schools.
