ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines a feedback coding system which provides a potentially valuable tool to help teachers at all levels to reflect on the quality and effectiveness of the feedback they are giving their students. It enables the strengths and weaknesses of the feedback to be identified in relation to the principles of good feedback practice underpinning this book. Once weaknesses have been identified it is possible for teachers to search for the causes and to put into effect changes to the type of feedback given and/or assessment tasks set that will lead to improvements in the quality of the feedback and increase its potential to help students’ learning.
