ABSTRACT

The most sustainable building is likely to be the one you keep. In this case study, Sarah Wigglesworth of Sarah Wigglesworth Architects returns to the home and office she (designed in 2000, outlining the recent adaptations made to improve its performance. The modest set of changes reveal the care and attention required to enable buildings to adapt to changing needs for decades to come, adding maintenance and custodianship to the architect’s toolkit. A slow process, at odds with the extractive practice that is addicted to building more and more.
