ABSTRACT

This chapter presents successively implications for individuals and the ones for society including the local community and some suggestions for social policy development. In the last part were included educational implications focused on preparation for old age. The scientific literature as well as the media often emphasise the role of nutrition and physical exercise as being key factors for living longer and better. Eat wisely means first of all avoiding overeating. Physical activity is natural for centenarians; they did not run marathons or triathlons and did not turn into weekend joggers or daily users of fitness clubs. Activity is important at every stage of life including for seniors. Well-organised activity releases a positive vision of an old age, helps to regulate the life rhythm and improves the well-being. Active persons regain faith in themselves and their self-esteem and more easily enter into relations with their environment. The capital of the long-lived individuals is enormous and diversified.
