ABSTRACT

Cameroon, a country situated in Central Africa, is endowed with varied ecological diversity that ranges from coastal mangroves and rich Equatorial rainforests in the south. This chapter focuses on assessing the exact pattern of trends and impacts of climate change in Cameroon from 1926 to 2007 and their relationship with sub-regional and global trends. The main objective is to utilize the results for the identification of appropriate mitigation and adaptation options to be adopted towards increasing the resilience of vulnerable communities based on the conception of sustainable development approaches in the most affected areas/regions of the country. The increasing pattern of climate change is inevitable, the society which is most vulnerable to it will have to devise adaptation and resilience options in order to cope with this phenomenon. The need for renewed environmental, scientific, and political ethics towards devising mitigation, adaptation, and resilience options and strategies is paramount.
