ABSTRACT

This part conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters. The part provides the need for support but also for opportunities to develop trusted networks and decision-making skills and resources. Financial decision-making and budgeting are skills everyone needs time to develop and ones for which most people use some form of support. The part discusses experiences which show how the denial of legal capacity or a lack of support to exercise legal capacity could have a monumental impact on a person's ability to exercise their right to choose where and with whom to live. Some advocate for specific and exacting changes to legislation where others call for a more general change to societal attitudes. However, what they do agree on is the need for support – be it personal or professional, the need for opportunities and choices.
