ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the collaborations between staff in schools and university researchers that informed respectful research partnerships. The book describes how our research network schools gathered a varied range of data to inform inquiry into practice, rather than just to improve practice. It provides a more detailed account of the project and its rationale. The book looks at the role of students as active participants in collaborative inquiry. It also looks at what this involves by providing a more detailed case study of how one school drew on statistical data to identify areas for further inquiry and implement change. The book draws on detailed interviews with project school principals in order to explore the strategic role of school leaders in promoting school cultures that support the development of ethical practices, equity and continuous improvement.
