ABSTRACT

The chapter aims at presenting structuration theory (ST) by Anthony Giddens as a useful tool for career guidance analyses. The author discusses how ST can contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of CG in the struggle for social justice. ST is used here as a ‘system of sensitizing concepts’ which can serve as a source for research inspiration. The argument in this chapter proceeds in two parts. The first part presents the introduction to structuration theory and its ontological assumptions. The second part discusses the possible ways of using ST in research on career guidance. The arguments here are two-layered: one concerns research on career guidance itself, and the second one is focused on research on career guidance in the context of social justice analyses.
