ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the aims and structure of the book, providing a justification for the collection of nine individual research studies and the meta-study which compares their findings in the concluding chapter. After introducing the aims of the study, the chapter introduces the concepts of corpus linguistics and then outlines the concept of methodological triangulation and how it has previously been applied to corpus linguistics research; for example other studies which have involved analysts working on the same data set. The chapter then describes how corpus-based triangulation has been previously used in combination with three fields of linguistics: psycholinguistics, applied linguistics and discourse analysis. This follows with outlines of the analysis chapters to follow.
