ABSTRACT

Hyderabad has its own unique identity and history with the fragrance of unity in diversity. The landmark in the development of Marathi language and literature in Hyderabad goes back to November 1920. Panchadhara proved to be a keen observer of the literary activities in Hyderabad. The wide span of study, the up to date information and analyses, the untiring efforts of the editors made Panchadhara one of the most prestigious literary magazines in Marathi. The Department of Marathi in Osmania University started a research journal Marathi Swadhyaya Sanshodhan Patrika in 1966 under the able editorship of Prof. S. R. Kulkarni. Prof. S. R. Kulkarni, former head, Department of Marathi, Osmania University wrote his autobiography Navaratra Sample in the year 1973. Marathi speakers in Hyderabad enjoy a rich cultural life. They have a Marathi Granth Sangrahalay with thousands of books and good readership. Marathi language, literature and people have played an important role in the cultural life of Hyderabad.
