ABSTRACT
The Kannada community in Hyderabad at present may be classified into several main groups. In the present-day situation, motivation to study the Kannada language and literature is decreasing day by day, due to lack of job opportunities. Many great men have played prominent roles in the development and welfare of these institutions. Osmania University gave prominence to Kannada from the very inception. Many people worked outside Osmania University also brought fame to Hyderabad in the field of Kannada literature. Prof. Gokak was one of the torchbearers of the Navya Poetry in Kannada and was also a great novelist. His Modern Kannada epic, Bharata Sindhurashmi brought him the prestigious Jnanapith award. Among the cultural associations and institutions of Kannada situated in Hyderabad, the most prominent are the Karnataka Sahitya Mandira, in Bagh Lingampally and the Kannada Natyaranga, in Amrutnagar Colony. Thus in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Kannada is sustaining itself through the efforts of the enthusiastic people of the Kannada community.
