ABSTRACT

The early evidence of Dakhani prose can be found in the writings of the Sufis. In the year 1398, Khawja Bande Nawaz Gesudaraz migrated from Delhi to Gulbarga. The major works of prose in the Dakhani language that people know are religious in nature. A survey the Dakhani language and culture reveals the social status, stature and importance of women. The royal ladies of the Deccan had been taking an active part in the development of the cultural affairs of the state and its external relations. Their contribution in resolving political tensions and arresting fragmentation and mutual rivalries has been significant. The patronage of Qutub Shahi kings was not just limited to the poets and writers in Dakhani but it also included the great poets of Telugu. During the Qutub Shahi reign the impact of Telugu language was visible in all walks of life. Dakhani language played a major role in this unique synthesis of cultures.
