ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the question of how the Aadhaar system is preparing India for analytics. It highlights the founding strategy of the Aadhaar card, its salient features, the supporting infrastructure, and some initial benefits in public service delivery. The chapter also highlights avenues of future development by using the Aadhaar card infrastructure. The Aadhaar system is designed with a state-of-the-art software stack to support and manage Big Data. The authentication process leverages the openness of the Aadhaar infrastructure and can be accessed by any service, protocol, network, or device. The chapter presents some public-sector initiatives that have benefited from the Aadhaar infrastructure, and the strategic objectives behind Aadhaar and its initial communication process. Based on the vision to create a unique national identify that could be verified in real time, the technical team of Aadhaar used certain founding principles to ensure effectiveness of the system.
