ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides a background to the challenges of anthropologists in corporate work. It discusses the complexities of capitalism as an orientation for employment. The book also discusses the Code of Ethics of the American Anthropological Association. It also addresses a wide range of conceptual and practical engagement issues in the anthropology of business. The book also explores several ethical entanglements that occur when anthropologists ply their trade in contemporary marketplaces. It examines dynamics in the personal, professional, and political domains in which these challenges are negotiated. The book examines how business anthropologists who work for multinational enterprises (MNEs) grapple with ethical complexity. It also looks at how some designers have adapted anthropology's traditional fieldwork methods for private and public sector projects. The book also explores the criticisms and benefits of advertising from historical and cross-cultural perspectives.
