ABSTRACT

Vocal development and classification are typical topics of consideration for any choral director. From the initial research light bulb moment it appeared obvious that narrative inquiry would best fit the search to articulate Jamey's experiences. Jamey's choral history began in his church, not as a formal experience, but as he stated, "it was just like, 'aw, you're a little cute little kid. Go up and sing with the old church ladies.'" The choral director removed both Jamey and the other students from the classroom and sent them to the assistant principal where the other student received a "slap on the wrist. Jamey feels that his voice is still changing, but remembers the start of the change beginning in seventh or eighth grade. Jamey modeled primarily in his baritone range for both his secondary choral and elementary general placements.
