ABSTRACT

Is there a crisis in arbitration? Whilst, according to KLRCA’s (Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration) Statistics on Arbitration Cases Registered, there was a marked increase in the number of arbitration cases registered with KLRCA since 2010, we see a decrease in the number of cases registered with KLRCA after 2013. Based on the statistics, 1 there were a total of 22 cases handled by KLRCA in 2010, 52 cases in 2011, 135 cases in 2012 and 156 cases in 2013; but in 2014, the number dropped to 112; and in 2015 (up to the end of July), only 63 cases were registered with KLRCA.
