ABSTRACT

This chapter helps readers become familiar with the structures, cultures and stakeholders of healthcare settings and learn about rights and access to language provision in healthcare settings. By successfully completing this chapter, readers will be able to understand the structures of a healthcare setting in general and identify the stakeholders in a healthcare organization. Readers will also become familiar with the cultures of each of the stakeholders participating in interpreter-mediated communication in a healthcare organization and connect healthcare interpreting to patients’ rights and health-related legislation, especially as it pertains to issues of equality and access to information.
