ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the bold leadership strategies employed by one of the authors, as a new President, to create the positive conditions necessary for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends to embrace the goal of accelerating student success. Bold leadership focuses on actions that serve the greater good of the community. This unique style of leadership calls on everyone, especially the President, to set aside personal agendas and preferences and focus on how to strengthen the university so that it can better serve the needs of its students and the community. The leadership style embodied by President Joseph Castro is based upon the development of authentic personal relationships, collaboration with individuals and organizations whose values align with the university's mission, and bold and innovative ideas that serve the unique needs of students. A bold leadership approach gives the campus community a clear and strategic direction to head in.
