ABSTRACT
Translation has increasingly been investigated as a situated practice, with attention being paid to the processes, agents, and settings in which translations are produced. Exploring the ergonomic factors that impact the work of the translators in institutional settings can be combined with an investigation of the ideological and historical aspects of the translating institution. Institutions can operate at national, international, supra- or transnational levels, and within different fields. The European Union (EU) institutions have been at the centre of research into institutional translation. Translations produced by the European Central Bank (ECB) were investigated by S. Tcaciuc, with a special focus on the treatment of metaphors in the Romanian, French, and Spanish translations of English source texts. In accordance with the EU’s principle of multilingualism, the ECB translates legal acts and official reporting documents into all official languages of the EU.
