ABSTRACT

This chapter presents selected findings from a case study focusing on a Braziguayan student whom the author calling Natalia. It discusses a contextualization of the multilingual and multicultural settings of the Triple Frontier and a presentation of the theoretical framework grounding the study. The chapter focuses on the ways in which Natalia draws on the resources in her language and literacy repertoire. In one of the author's interviews with Natalia, she spoke in detail about the 'languages' in her linguistic repertoire, and about the communicative resources she had developed during her years of schooling, and about the ways in which she lived her life in transit between Paraguay and Brazil. Her problems with writing in Portuguese came up later in the same interview, with specific reference to an undergraduate program in Portuguese Studies. Her focus on spelling and grammar echoes her teachers' complaints about the problems that Braziguayans have when writing in Portuguese.
