ABSTRACT

The main collaborator for the Jam Manufactory is the NGO Centro de Apoyo al Movimiento Popular Oaxaqueno (CAMPO), a partner of CoCooon's, that identified key players, assets of the communities and proposed projects. A jury comprising external specialists, the leading team and the students selected the final design, considering the prior mentioned framing conditions and ethical principles. CoCoon-Studio is a sector for contextual planning, design and construction in an intercultural and interdisciplinary context. To support the leading team and to provide the highest transparency into the complex organization, logistical tasks are assigned to the students: to develop a health strategy, achieve appropriate insurance, and define the travel and sightseeing itinerary. The students recognize that every design decision leads to consequences in costs, work and time. Based on a 2004 student-driven survey, and supported through narrative reports, it can be asserted that DesignBuild projects are considered among the most important experiences in the academic career of students.
