ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the manifold manifestations of feminism in translation and the equally multifaceted manifestations of translations in feminism. It emphasizes the critical role of translation in the transformation of feminist movements, locally and transnationally, diachronically and synchronically. The book expands the definition of feminist translation from an exclusively gender-conscious approach to a more intersectional and heterogeneous model of cross-border meaning-making. It highlights the multiple agendas and visions of feminist translation and the different political voices and cultural heritages through which it speaks across time and place. The book discusses feminist translators and feminist translation studies (FTS) scholars to reclaim "treason" in translation in their pursuit of anti-nationalism and transnational feminist solidarities. It explores the ways in which a politics of translation may serve the project of reconceptualising the universal to create new transnational solidarities or visions of solidarity among feminists.
