ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a brief overview of leadership discourse. It approaches the question of what leadership is and how it can be researched from a discourse analytical perspective. The chapter briefly outlines historical developments and reviews some of the most interesting and most recent developments in current leadership studies. It also introduces one of the main research methods frequently used in recent research, discursive leadership, and analyses three examples of authentic workplace interaction to illustrate the complexities of leadership in action. The chapter ends by mentioning some meeting points between leadership research and practice, and making suggestions for future

research.
