ABSTRACT

In Germany, with a population of about 80 million people, about 20 per cent of the population has a migration background. Of the nationalities with a migration background, Turks comprise the biggest group, with close to 4 million. According to zentrum für Türkeistudien, while in 1975 only 100 Turks were entrepreneurs, currently more than 80,000 people with a Turkish background are entrepreneurs (Die Welt 2012). This rising trend raises a lot of questions, such as:

What explains the strong rise of Turkish entrepreneurship in Germany?

What are the problems Turkish migrant entrepreneurs face?
