ABSTRACT

According to Landes (1998), if countries want to be successful, they need appropriate financial instruments and good management. This chapter suggests two additional aspects in addition to these factors: scientific and commercial networking and trust. Both are indispensable ingredients in building up healthy, cost-free network relations. Germany is a successful case study in understanding the role of academic networks in increasing innovativeness of a country. Networking has contributed a lot to the unique position of Germany. Germany’s academic and scientific relations with other countries including Turkey made an impact in increasing its number of patents and publications.
