ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on developing technical writing skills. In technical writing, a priority is placed on reporting facts parsimoniously with minimal inferences. The chapter examines building content knowledge regarding the organizational structure for research proposals and reports. It highlights transparency, parsimony, and clarity to support dissemination efforts. The chapter addresses the important – and often challenging – task of establishing authorship. It explains the scientific peer-review process, as well as the rationale for engaging in this rigorous experience rather than disseminating findings more quickly using less stringent feedback protocols. Whenever writing a manuscript, it is helpful to have a main outlet in mind prior to writing, as opposed to writing the article first and subsequently searching for an outlet. The chapter provides information and illustrations specifically for graduate students and early career scholars conducting treatment-outcome studies in authentic educational settings, with an emphasis on single-case research designs methodology.
