ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how the principles that operate in generating and sustaining Directed Motivational Current (DMC) can be utilized to consciously induce powerful, DMC like motivational surges at the group level within the L2 classroom. It has also presented seven different frameworks, each of which can be applied to engage L2 learners on a long-term basis, and describes the key characteristics of each approach. The chapter emphasizes, however, that these frameworks should be viewed as variations of the generic structure which underlies any sustained motivational behavioral process, rather than as freestanding, individual templates. Therefore, the components ascribed to each framework do not belong exclusively to any one particular project type but can and to some extent usually are present in all of them. Thus, the function of the frameworks has been to highlight the signature or guiding factor within each, and so, accordingly, people have not complicated matters by indicating the many overlaps.
