ABSTRACT

The growth in management consultancy in recent years has been accompanied by a steady increase in the development of consulting capabilities which are internal to organisations. There are obvious advantages in having an effective internal consulting capability, but many organisations have found this difficult to achieve. The use of consultants to tackle problems in organisations is well established. In many ways, however, the very rationales which are put forward in favour of using consultants, would seem to negate the idea of such consultants being themselves members of the organisation.
