ABSTRACT

Creative dance, which allows pupils to take charge of moving their bodies and designing their own dance phrases, may be intimidating to local instructors if they lack relevant knowledge in the practice of creative dance pedagogy. In that light, an in-service workshop was proposed and instituted at Tainan University of Technology (TUT) that would help foster dance creativity in dance education at various institutions in the area. In the child-centred dance classes, the children improve their ways of moving by moving with a creative purpose, but without a concern about any imposed technical skills. They experience it in their own way, establishing a social space through the collaborative creative processes which give them the courage to express themselves through movement. An exciting future can be anticipated as the workshops continue to draw creative talents together to explore creative pedagogies with the purpose of enhancing children's dance experiences.
