ABSTRACT

Twinning is about interweaving skills and knowledge between people from different cultures and different places to create dialogue and new knowledge. The Twinning concept in a dance context was first put forward during the 2006 daCi Conference in the Hague. The core challenge for all participants in a Twinning project becomes the creative process itself. Exploring any engaging endeavour together naturally provides a context for constructive learning experiences that inspire the development of mutual trust, tolerance and talent. In a Twinning project, all participants are equally involved in a creative process of mutual learning and sharing, in this case with a shared interest in dance as the main medium in the exchanges. Twinning occurred on different levels: between the young dancers, between facilitators and their groups, between facilitators and their assistants. In line with the Twinning concept of close cooperation between partners, a democratic approach is essential.
