ABSTRACT

Taking a step back can so often help you see forward. My sabbatical year in 2013 gave me the opportunity to step back, to reflect on achievements, issues and dreams. This chapter outlines a personal perspective on what I see in the dance education community, what I see in the work I do, and what I would like to see more of in the future. This report blends a chronological travel digest with my musings on emerging persistent themes or issues and future directions for dance education. As a personal account, my thoughts pick up on ideas, images and discussions found when gazing at Rangitoto Island from my local café in Kohimarama Beach, New Zealand; waiting in a taxi queue at Buenos Aires; meeting friends at conferences/meetings in Munich, Beijing and Paris; and visiting my aging mother and her senior citizen friends in Sydney.
