ABSTRACT
The aim of this chapter is to analyse the evolution of the informal sector in Thailand over a period of more than three decades which were marked by strong growth and rapid industrialisation, with the exception of the crisis years (1997–1999). It is above all a question of explaining the apparent paradox of the continuance of the informal sector while the dynamic of growth stems from industrial investment and the services as well as development of wage labour.
