ABSTRACT

Picturebooks are a species of children’s literature. Typically, their use is embedded in situations of a caregiver’s and child’s joint attention to them. Therefore, the specific makeup of picturebooks and its embedment within a specific reading situation is an object of research. This collection focuses on the question of what children may learn from looking at picturebooks. It reports on commercial picturebooks as well as on artificial picturebooks made for experimental purposes.
