ABSTRACT

‘The belief that Homo sapiens is absolutely dimorphic with respect to sex chromosome composition, gonadal structure, hormone levels, and the structure of the internal genital duct systems and external genitalia, derives from the platonic ideal that for each sex there is a single, universally correct developmental pathway and outcome’. In other words, the idea that people are all born with one set of chromosomes or the other, one set of genitals or the other and one set of hormone levels or the other may well be far from the demonstrable truth for some people. Gender refers to the social roles based on the sex of the person or personal identification of a person's own gender’. Finding out the gender. It is such an important part of having or, for some, adopting, a child the breathless excitement and anticipation of finding out what the child's gender is. The ‘brains are gendered’ thing is controversial and may well prove impossible to prove.
