ABSTRACT

In 2018 Deanne Carson, an expert in sexuality, was the subject of a Twitter storm following a TV interview she gave on ABC News about the issue of children's consent. Her insistence that children, at the youngest of ages, should be invited to participate in developing ‘cultures of consent’ was viciously ridiculed. Issues of touch and consent in early childhood contexts have long generated anxiety in the public psyche. But there is much to be learned from a long tradition of feminist research on the topic. Deborah Price, senior lecturer at the University of Brighton, has written extensively over the past 40 years on this topic, offering practical guidance about how to address gender diversity and sexuality in the early years.
