ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses Wikipedians’ treatment of ‘Brexit’ between 2016 and 2018. It deals with the talk page (TP) accompanying the Wikipedia article ‘Brexit’ and the so-called reference desk (RD), which allows Wikipedia users to consult the community for additional information. Taking a corpus-assisted approach to the TP and RD, the item ‘Brexit’, its co-text and its collocational profile are explored. This examination shows that the debates focus on causes and effects of the referendum and Brexit. In this context, some Wikipedia editors express critical views concerning the reliability of academia and expert sources, which challenges Wikipedia policy on reliable sourcing.
