ABSTRACT

School psychology is a complex profession that is rooted in a considerable number of psychological and educational theories. This chapter emphasizes the value of integrating multiple theories within school psychological research and practice to solve the multifaceted issues that often surface within the diverse and dynamic landscape of schools today. The chapter begins with one final case study that illustrates case conceptualization utilizing and integrating several prominent theories that have been highlighted in previous chapters. The multiple systems within and stakeholders with which school psychologists work is then examined in relation to the complex roles and functions of contemporary practice within the field. In conclusion, a set of recommendations for enhancing the use of theory to guide training, research, and practice within the field is included.
