ABSTRACT

Grievers who have experienced a variety of types of losses (i.e., both violent and natural death) and who enjoy the outdoors, hiking and the potential benefits of participating in a group activity with other grievers are likely to benefit from this activity. However, it may be contraindicated for individuals with medical conditions that preclude them from hiking, as well for those who do not participate in holiday tree decorating, unless the activity is suitably modified. When loved ones die, celebrating important holidays without them can become increasingly difficult for the griever. Finding ways to be able to continue to celebrate and find joy following loss can be a daunting task, especially because grief intensity tends to rise prior to important events/activities such anniversaries or celebrations.
