ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides a snapshot of the evidence and data that are being collected in the classrooms within Australia. It seeks to interrogate current views of learning and teaching, beyond what is measured in external assessments that capture only a limited view of student learning outcomes. The book provides classroom-based research in an Australian context by exploring evidence-based learning and teaching practices. It explores a range of fundamental topics within education, including positive learning environment, student voice and assessment, which touch on the vital knowledge and skills needed for current and future teachers. The book provides practical steps for teachers, teacher educators and researchers in order to guide classroom-based practices that support a rights-based approach to Indigenous education.
