ABSTRACT
This Contribution provides an activity overview of the Department of German Studies in area of computer-based education. Within German for Specific Purposes courses, soft skills essential for e-learning environment and techniques are being developed. The education involves specialized education, training courses, as well as distant and virtual education. The purpose of this chapter is also to evaluate the traditional methods of teaching and suggest innovative teaching methods, especially Skype-based teaching method and CAT – computer-assisted translation. Translation is the transfer of meaning, not words in the original word order. Our aim is to resolve the problems in computer-assisted translation and to learn the rules how to translate this way. The contribution brings the needs analysis results of students and describes the experiences on the implementation of CAT and Skype-based teaching method on the syllabus of German language program for specific purposes.
