ABSTRACT

The author locates the Americans in their historical moment, the long season, the revolution that they are in. Connecting plant and animal nations with people nations, her writing takes them through critique of ecological (and colonial) destruction, and reminds them of the utterly miraculous forms that life has taken. The author reminds them that these are their relations, that this is the side they are fighting on. She invites all to be part of the revolution that is already happening. And, the author is critically generous, no dupe to the dissimilitude of inclusion that requires compromises that Americans cannot and should not make. The author further unties the colonial connections between ecological destruction, resource extraction, and linguicide, and restores the connections between humans and animals of different nations with the earth, water, air, and future.
