ABSTRACT

This chapter examines from the perspectives of the graduates the nature of the soft skills that are, indeed, important and required for them to perform their work effectively. Limited research and attention are available in the field about graduates who complete education offshore in Australian transnational education (TNE) programs. In the National Graduate Employability Blueprint 2012–2017 by the Ministry of Higher Education in Malaysia, the inability to solve problems was identified as one of the issues employers faced in hiring fresh graduates. Australian higher education institutions have been active in the TNE industry for several decades. TNE operating out of Australian higher education institutions can be considered substantial in size. The business degree program is a twinning/franchise program between an Australian university that has operated since 1994 in Malaysia. Malaysia is a developing country with aspirations of becoming a developed nation by 2020; that is, a nation with a high-income and knowledge-driven workforce.
