ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case study, which highlights how young people might be empowered to communicate and collaborate better in the digital age. There are six sub-skills within the competency: interacting through digital technologies; sharing through digital technologies; engaging in citizenship through digital technologies; collaborating through digital technologies; netiquette; and managing digital identity. Good design is grounded in a deep understanding of the person for whom the product/process is being designed. The ecology map is a visual tool to help the student teacher to recognise all those impacted by the events depicted in the case study. The chapter utilizes design thinking techniques to analyse the values dilemma amplifying hidden cues, clues, context and new solutions. It also utilizes a journey map to plot the experience of Maisie and all stakeholders in the case in relation to the Digital Competency: Communication and Collaboration.
