ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the case study that uses a design thinking approach to explore how digital technology can impact on the safety and well-being of a young person. It identifies through the case a particular values dilemma and considers how a more prosocial values compass could have intervened to prevent the situation from escalating and allow for alternative action on the part of Jack. The chapter focuses on one particular young person, Jack. It provides the case that values dilemma not only for Jack, but for other stakeholders implicated in this situation. From Jack’s case study there are several people for whom their safety and health and well-being may be compromised by what has happened. Cognitive behavioural therapy aims to change patterns, beliefs and values, thereby moving individual towards a position of alternative action that can better help them reach their goals.
